10 things every hiring manager should focus on during the coronavirus pandemic

7th May 2020

Recruitment has probably changed during these unprecedented times in one way or the other but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to keep busy with. Here are the Top 10 things you could be doing during these unprecedented times!

1: Re-write old job descriptions

Re-write those old job descriptions your manager Dave wrote all those years ago. Times have changed and the roles you are recruiting for have changed so time to re-write!

2: Update the conference calling tech

Remember always complaining about the conference calling software you are using?
Now is a good time to explore alternatives such as Zoom or Teams.

3: Re-vamp your onboarding process

Ok so you have made a choice on your next team member but the honeymoon isn’t over yet.
Onboarding is just as important and, with the stats showing great employee onboarding can improve employee retention by 82%, there’s never been a better time to look into it.

4: Help those struggling to work at home

Get equipped to help those in your team who are struggling to cope with remote working (think of those with young kids and not getting much peace!) Use the Remote working reports to give you some extra insights.

5: Benchmark your staff against the market

Benchmark your staff against the market.
Check out the competition to see just how good your offer is.

6: Reshuffle the team

Is your customer services department very busy – but your R&D team very quiet? Consider a re-shuffle by placing each individual in a new temporary position that works both with their current skill set as well as their personality. See blog

7: Organise a virtual online quiz night

To help boost morale and create a sense of togetherness. Send the winner a bottle of something nice as a gesture

8: Start a company blog

Perhaps now is a good time to establish your business as an industry leader. Content is the nutrients that feed your business – if potential customers don’t know you exist, how will they purchase from you?

9: Attack that admin list

No one loves doing admin, so, rather than a workforce twiddling their thumbs, divvy it up between colleagues and get it done.

10: Brainstorm advertising opportunities

Compile a list of best places to advertise your next roles – this time will end and before you know it you will be knee-deep in paperwork

What’s the takeaway?

There may be unprecedented times and things may be a struggle, but that doesn’t mean that the workforce should be left with minimal tasks and deflated morale.
With everything from a full shuffle to a staff quiz night all available from the comfort of our own homes, getting creative with our business is all we really can do.
It may be difficult, but it might just be the push we all need to come back stronger in the future.
