How Can You Improve Quality of Hire?

26th February 2020

With employees at the core of every organisation it is essential to ensure that you hire the right people. Quality of hire is the measure often turned to in order to assess the value a new hire adds to your company. It should be at the forefront of your mind throughout the recruitment process, as hiring quality employees has many benefits for a company.
There are lots of different techniques you can use to improve quality of hire within your company. Let’s take a look at some…

  1. Start off by measuring the current quality of hire. This information will allow you to see the areas you need to focus upon. Take a look at the previous blog post if you need a little help on measuring quality of hire.
  2. Make sure the role overview is accurate. This instantly improves the quality of hire as potential candidates know exactly what to expect from the role.
  3. Data is your best friend. Collecting pre- and post-employment data will work in your favour. Having an up-to-date, accurate representation of the company’s recruitment model enables you to plug any gaps and make accommodations.
  4. Assess the candidates fit and potential. Quality of hire is all about the potential of a new hire and so assessing their potential at the pre-interview stage can be incredibly worthwhile. Using psychometric testing, such as those used by Big5Assessments, will give you an accurate representation of candidates’ personalities, traits and potential.
  5. Be objective. Removing biases from the recruitment process improves quality of hire. Removing the focus on CVs, applications and interviews certainly helps here as these are all open to biases. Using, again, psychometric testing as an alternative focus during recruitment provides you with much more accurate data. Additionally, recruitment decisions should not be left to one person. Including more people in the recruitment process removes biases from the situation, however unintentional they were.

Summary

The fact that you’re here, reading this, is a great sign and a step in the right direction. Even if you have high quality of hire, there is always something you can do to improve. Remember that data is key to keeping your company where it needs to be. Whether that be data from psychometric testing, or data surrounding value added by a new hire, it can all be used to inform your practice.
