We’ve started a new tradition here at Big 5 Assessments of highlighting a “Reseller of the Month.” With so many resellers (we now have over 20 resellers around the globe), it’s hard to choose just one, but June’s honour goes to (drum roll, please) …AssessAdvantage.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with Rob and the team for many many years, and were recently able to visit him in New Zealand. (one of the perks of having resellers abroad!)

What does a typical day look like at the AssessAdvantage Head Office?
In a nutshell – 50% fighting fires – 50% content marketing ! Our specialty (we’ll it’s our passion) is to help organizations of any size, hire tough and manage easy. So we have a range of online tools that make the old recruitment agency model redundant. Unlike the UK, the bulk of organisations in Australasia now hire in-house using smart technology and good psychology – One third the cost, better transparent outcomes. Recruiters sales commission is not driving the process!
Our online tools can attract, filter and communicate with candidates faster, more efficiently, at a darn sight less cost than external recruiters, plus deliver better hires.
So our daily activity is around working with our clients, setting up their recruitment process, whether that be a full internal system or individual tools. This could be training, general help, interpretation of outcomes. marketing etc.
Our main online tools are an Applicant Tracking System, On-demand Video Interviewing, Employee assessments (Big 5 Assessments), On-demand reference checking.
Tell us a bit more about the people behind AssessAdvantage?
Founder/CEO is Rob McKay MA(Hons) Organisational Psychology. Our Help desk and Admin is looked after by Gloria Holiday and Karen Batchelor. IT is managed by Andrew Kovács and content management by Ines Arnedo. We all work virtually and are scattered around NZ/World.
What do you believe makes AssessAdvantage so unique?
When it comes to hiring, there are many types of occupations and organisations. So we are not the supplier of one or two tools for the hiring process. When it comes to hiring, we are your one-stop-shop for today’s latest online hiring technology, married to strong psychological science. Whether a client wants just testing, video interviewing, reference checking etc, we can mix and match to get the right outcome.
If you could give just one piece of advice to your clients what would it be?
HIRE TOUGH – MANAGE EASY! The core to this process is STRUCTURE. You have to have the right tools and process to measure ‘apples with apples’ otherwise you end up with fruit salad.
What exciting new projects are you currently working on?
I am extremely fizzed about our Online Referencing Checking platform. I believe this is going to be the next big thing to happen in recruitment. Current reference checking is a game of telephone tag. Often poorly done and based on the person, not if they CAN do YOUR job. Our platform is based on assessment technology and customized to every job. Our clients get referencing done early in the hiring cycle. And because past behavior reflects future behavior, they can filter fast, with more predictive results. And did I say all done with a couple of clicks – Playing telephone tag is over!
